Press Release

Swanton, VT – Northern Tier Center for Health (NOTCH) is thrilled to announce that Swanton Rexall is joining our Federally Qualified Health Center on June 1st.  After 57 years as a Spaulding family business, current owner Troy Spaulding gave a great reason for joining NOTCH, “I feel that merging with the NOTCH will maintain Swanton Rexall as a community based pharmacy.”

Troy’s father Dexter Spaulding bought the pharmacy on Merchants Row in 1962, and then Troy purchased it from Dexter and his uncle Bruce Spaulding in 2002.  Rexall presently has 11 employees, and 5 of them are members of the Spaulding family (Judith, Kendall, Louise, Olivia, and Troy).  Most of the employees will transition to NOTCH.  “Our current staff is excited and looking forward to merging with the NOTCH, Troy said.”  As he contemplates the future, Troy shared a fond memory from the past; the pharmacy’s 50th year in business.  “We had a wonderful celebration, and we were visited by so many of our patients and local providers.  We were all very proud of that accomplishment and the hard work it took to keep a locally owned pharmacy moving forward for so many years.”

Customers will notice Rexall’s footprint shrink over the next few weeks as the Spauldings reduce the store’s retail inventory.  Pharmacy operations are expected to continue at the same location without interruption, but NOTCH will carry a very limited inventory of non-pharmaceutical products.

Swanton Rexall is the second pharmacy to join NOTCH.  Richford Rexall joined the organization in 2004.  In addition to the 2 pharmacies, NOTCH has 6 medical offices situated in Alburgh, Enosburg Falls, Fairfax, Richford, St.Albans, and Swanton.  The Federally Qualified Health Center delivers integrated behavioral health services at all of its medical sites and dental services in Richford and Swanton.  The mission of NOTCH is to guard, promote, preserve, and restore the health of persons residing in Franklin and Grand Isle counties.  A Sliding Fee Discount Program is available to eligible patients at all NOTCH locations.
